Guide in Adding Code for Non-Professional and Professional Driver’s Licenses

Do you want to add an LTO restriction code for your LTO Driver’s License? To be able to drive a wide variety of vehicles like cars, buses, trucks, motorcycles, etc. In this blog, I’m going to tackle the driver’s license codes, qualifications, requirements, step-by-step procedures, fees, and charges.

Driver’s License Codes

A – Motorcycle

A1 – Tricycle

B – Up to 5000 Kilograms Gross Vehicle Weight/8 Seats

B1 – Up to 5000 Kilograms Gross Vehicle Weight/9 or more seats

B2 – Goods 3500 Kilograms Gross Vehicle Weight

C – Goods greater than 3500 Kilograms Gross Vehicle Weight

D – Bus greater than 5000 Kilograms Gross Vehicle Weight/9 or more seats

BE – Trailers 3500 Kilograms

CE – Articulated C greater than 3500 Kilograms combined Gross Vehicle Weight

Qualifications

1. Must be at least 18 years of age.

2. Able to read and write.

3. Physically and mentally fit to operate a motor vehicle.

4. No unsettled traffic violation.

5. For those who have demerit points (you can look up this on your LTMS portal account), the prohibition of adding DL codes shall apply:

a. You must wait for 3 months before adding code/s in your license if you have 1 – 2 demerit points

b. You must wait for 6 months before adding code/s in your license if you have 3 – 4 demerit points

c. You must wait for 1 year before adding code/s in your license if you have 5 or up demerit points

6. You must pass the Automated Theoretical Examination and Practical Driving Test in accordance with the DL code that you wish to add.

7. Restriction codes and required holder using the new code system:

a. Restriction code 1 – you must be a holder of A or A1 suitable for Pro and Non-Pro DL holders. If you have code A in your DL, you can add the A1 code and vice versa.

b. Restriction code 2 or 4 – you must be a holder of code B, B1, or B2 suitable for Pro and Non-Pro DL holders.

c. Restrictions 3 and 5 or DL Code C – you must be a holder of a Probationary Driving License (PDL) Code B2 (RC 2) for at least 4 years.

d. Restrictions 3 and 5 or DL Code C – you must be a holder of a Probationary Driving License (PDL) Code B1 (RC 2) for at least 4 years.

e. Restriction code 6 or 7 / DL Code BE – you must be a holder of B, B1, or B2 (Restriction Code 2) for at least 3 years.

f. Restriction code 8 / DL Codes CE – you must be a holder of C or D (RC 3) for at least 6 months.

Requirements

1. Fill out the application form for Permits and Licenses (APL) – you can get this online blank form file at LTO site or at the LTO Office. Bring your own ballpen when going to LTO.

2. Original copy and 1 photocopy of Medical Certificate – the original copy is for comparison purposes only.

3. Original Pro Driver’s License (PDL) or Non-Pro Driver’s License (NPDL)

4. DL Codes requirements:

            No PDC LTO (Practical Driving Course) is required…

a. For DL Code A or A1 if you are already a holder of A / A1 on your previous driver’s license.

b. For DL Code B, B1, or B2 if you are already a holder of B, B1 / B2 on your previous driver’s license.

            Equivalent Training from LTO Accredited TESDA Training NC III Certificate or PDC from Driving school is required if you are going to add codes like:

a.  DL Code C

b. DL Code D

c. DL Code BE

d. DL Code CE

Process

1. Request an Application for Driver’s License (ADL) form, fill it out then get your queue number.

2. Go to the evaluator to submit your ADL form, other requirements, and the attached queue number.

3. Proceed to the cashier to pay for the exam. If you want an additional Restriction Code (RC1) and to change the classification for expired PDL to NPDL, you may proceed to step 5.

4. If you fail to pass the written/computerized examination, it is the END OF THE TRANSACTION for that day. You may come back tomorrow. Note that if you fail the written examination again, you need to wait for 1 month before retaking.

5. If you passed the computerized/ written exam, proceed to the practical Driving Test. However, if you failed the actual driving test, this also is the END OF THE TRANSACTION, you may come back tomorrow.

6. If you passed the actual driving test, wait for your turn before going to the cashier.

7. After the payment at the cashier, proceed to the encoding section. Here, they will take your picture, biometric and digital signature.

8. Wait for your time then go to the releasing section where you can receive your OR and drivers license id or card then sign in their logbook for confirming that you already received your card.

Fees and Charges

With Valid Driver’s License:

1. Change DL Code – 100 pesos

2. Written/ Computerized Exam – 100 pesos

3. Practical Exam

A. Motorcycle – 150 pesos

B. Car – 250 pesos

Note: You don’t need to pay for the vehicle rent if you already have your own.

4. Medical Certificate – 500 pesos

5. License Card – 250 pesos

With Expired Driver’s License:

1. Change DL Code – 100 pesos

2. Written/ Computerized exam – 100 pesos

3. Practical Exam:

a. Motorcycle – 150 pesos

b. Car – 250 pesos

Note: You don’t need to pay for the vehicle rent if you already have your own.

4. Medical Certificate – 500 pesos

5. License Card – 585 pesos

Practical Driving Course (PDC) Code (prices may vary depending on the driving school):

1. Code 1/A – 1,500 to 2,500 pesos

2. Code 2/B – 2,500 to 4,500 pesos

3. Code 3/C – 4,000 to 5,000 pesos

4. Code D – 6,000 to 8,000 pesos

5. Code BE – 8,000 to 10,000 pesos

6. Code CE – 10,000 to 12,000 pesos
